Which Products Require an EU/UKCA Declaration?

Introduction

An EU or UKCA Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is a legally required document that confirms a product complies with European Union (EU) and United Kingdom (UK) safety, health, and environmental regulations. Manufacturers, importers, or authorized representatives must issue this declaration before placing certain products on the EU or UK markets.


Products Requiring an EU/UKCA Declaration

1. Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Products that must comply with CE/UKCA marking under directives such as:

  • Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU)

  • Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU)

  • RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)

  • UK’s Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016

  • UK’s EMC Regulations 2016

2. Machinery and Industrial Equipment

  • Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) for CE marking

  • Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 for UKCA marking

  • Construction and manufacturing tools

3. Medical Devices

  • Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) (EU 2017/745)

  • In Vitro Diagnostic Devices Regulation (EU 2017/746)

  • UK Medical Devices Regulations 2002

4. Toys and Children's Products

  • Toy Safety Directive (2009/48/EC) for CE marking

Products That Do NOT Require an EU/UKCA Declaration

Some general consumer products do not require CE or UKCA marking but may need a Declaration of Compliance under General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR): ✅ FurnitureJewelry & WatchesBooks & StationeryToys not covered by the Toy Safety DirectiveHome décor itemsClothing & textiles (unless they have protective functions)

For these products, a Declaration of Compliance may be required instead.
