Step 1: Understanding the Manufacturer Role
The manufacturer is the entity legally responsible for product compliance and safety in the EU and UK markets. Under EU and UK regulations, the manufacturer must ensure that products meet all necessary safety and compliance requirements before they are placed on the market.
Who is Considered a Manufacturer?
A manufacturer is not necessarily the factory where the product is made. Instead, it is the company that sells the product under its own brand name.
If a UK-based company manufactures a product in China but sells it in the EU or UK under its own brand name, then the UK company is the manufacturer, not the Chinese factory.
If a UK company sells products under another company's brand, it is considered a distributor, not a manufacturer, and cannot register as a manufacturer in Euverify.
